Yellow-bellied Marmot at the summit of Mount Evans. At 14,264 feet, Mt. Evans is the highest Scenic Byway in Colorado and the highest paved road in North America. The Yellow-bellied Marmot survives the bitter cold winters above tree line by doubling its size during the summer months and then hibernating during the winter months living on its fat.
